The Curriculum @FCJA
Our Curriculum is imperative for our children’s personal growth and development. Not only that, it underpins our behaviour system as well as our school aims and values. The children are at the centre of everything that we do which begins with a curriculum which will engross each and every child from day one.
Field Court Junior Academy implements a creative curriculum which is driven by a different theme each term, all of which are planned specifically taking into account the prior experiences, needs and interests of the children. Within our themes, two weekly chunks occur which are specifically designed to re-lift the theme particularly important during the lengthier terms. Our themes aim to give the children rich experiences in and out of the classroom and enable the children to make links between different aspects of learning. Our long term plans ensure that children receive a broad and balanced experience as they progress through the school, underpinned by rigorous progression in knowledge and skills
As well as following the New National Curriculum, we also work hard to ensure that your child develops their independence, perseverance, work ethic and social skills. All of which are so important for their individual success in all that they aim to do and achieve. English and Mathematics are immersed fully into the themes where possible ensuring the constant revision of basic skills.
The aims of our school curriculum are:
- to enable all children to learn and develop their skills to the best of their ability
- to promote a positive attitude towards learning, so that children enjoy coming to school, and acquire a solid basis for lifelong learning
- to teach children the basic skills of literacy, numeracy, science and information communication technology (ICT)
- to enable children to become independent learners
- to enable children to be creative and to develop their own thinking
- to nurture and encourage individual talents and interests
- to teach children about their developing world, including how their environment and society have changed over time
- to help children understand Britain’s cultural heritage
- to enable children to lead a healthy lifestyle and make informed choices
- to help children understand the importance of truth and fairness, so that they grow up committed to equal opportunities for all
- to enable children to have respect for themselves and high self-esteem, and to be able to live and work co-operatively with others.
Through our curriculum we aim to:
- build on prior knowledge and learning
- respond to pupils’ diverse needs
- teach from learning objectives in ways that suit different learning preferences
- encourage full and active participation by all children irrespective of age, gender, social and cultural background, religion, ethnic origin, ability and those from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
